John Neumeier

Sounddesign | Ballet | Hamburg

Since 2023, a close collaboration has existed with the Bundesjugendballett under the artistic direction of John Neumeier in Hamburg. In this context, marinegrau is responsible for sound-related planning, sound design, and audio mixing for various productions.

Sybil Dances (2024)

A particularly outstanding example of this collaboration was the production Sybil Dances, which premiered in October 2024 at the Theater Baden-Baden. The performance paid tribute to the early artistic connection between John Neumeier and the American dancer Sybil Shearer. Works by Shearer, Neumeier, and other choreographers were presented.

Sound Design

A special focus was placed on sound design: through targeted technical measures, a spatial listening experience was created that allowed the audience to become deeply immersed in the stage action. Loudspeakers were positioned with great precision, and sound sources were carefully selected to create an immersive yet natural acoustic environment. The music was enhanced in its intensity while always preserving its authentic sonic character.

Shall We Dance (2025)

In 2025, marinegrau also contributed to the production Shall We Dance in a sound-related capacity. Here, too, the sensitive interplay between sound and movement was central. Through nuanced sound design, precise coordination with the choreographic sequences, and a refined sense of space and dynamics, an acoustic layer was created that effectively deepened the expressive power of the dance.
