Dolby Atmos for Classical Music

A concert hall already surrounds the listener, and immersive audio is what preserves that experience instead of flattening it into two speakers. That makes Dolby Atmos a natural fit for orchestral and acoustic recordings, not just pop. marinegrau is one of the few Dolby Atmos Music certified studios in Austria, and the only one built around classical and acoustic music. We work with artists, labels and producers worldwide: in our Vienna control room, on location across Europe, and fully remote.

A certified room tuned for acoustic music

Our control room is Dolby Atmos Music certified, with a 7.1.4 monitoring system built on PMC and Neumann: PMC IB-1S mains, a PMC 8-2 SUB, and Neumann KH120 surrounds, in a space acoustically optimised over years of measurement. We also hold Apple Digital Masters certification, so your release meets Apple Music's spatial and master-quality standards end to end.

Atmos that respects the room

Classical Atmos is not pop Atmos. The goal isn't effects flying overhead. It's reproducing the natural depth and height of a real performance space. We've developed our own approach to extended microphone placement, with height and spatial microphones, so an ensemble's spatial dimension is captured at the source, on location, rather than synthesised afterwards.

More on location recording

Three ways to work with us

In our studio

Bring your project to Vienna's 17th district (Haslingergasse 2) and record, mix and master in a certified immersive room.

On location

We bring a full mobile rig to concert halls, churches and chamber venues, across Vienna and throughout Europe, and record in Atmos where the music is meant to sound.

Remote

Send us stems or full sessions (Pro Tools, Pyramix, Nuendo, Sequoia, or BWAV) via secure upload and we mix and master in Atmos for you. Want to be in the room from another continent? Join an attended session over video with real-time hi-res audio streaming, so you hear exactly what we hear.

How remote work works

Why immersive, now

Since Apple Music launched spatial audio in 2021, Atmos has moved from novelty to expectation, and demand for immersive classical releases keeps rising. Catalogues are being re-issued in spatial; new releases are increasingly Atmos-first. A label that masters in Atmos today is positioned for where streaming is going.
